Note: If you're uncomfortable performing this maintenance yourself, consider hiring a professional plumber.

Air trapped in water lines can cause sputtering faucets and reduced water flow. Bleeding the lines removes these air pockets.

When to Bleed Lines:
  • After moving into a new home
  • After water service interruptions
  • When you hear knocking in pipes
  • When water flow is inconsistent
How to Bleed Air from Lines:
  1. Turn off main water supply
  2. Open the highest faucet in your home
  3. Open the lowest faucet (usually in basement or first floor)
  4. Turn water supply back on slowly
  5. Allow water to run until it flows smoothly without sputtering
  6. Close the lowest faucet first, then the highest

Repeat process for hot water lines by running hot water until it flows smoothly.
